Professor Kim Dovey, The University of Melbourne

Do we need to formalise informal housing settlements of the global south? Or informalise over-determined public spaces of the global north?

In a unique twist on the north-south divide, this discussion on form and control is truly global. The session will be chaired by Associate Professor Paul Jones, who convenes the Informal Urbanism Research Hub at The University of Sydney.

The presenter is the well-known urbanist, Kim Dovey, who is Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at the Melbourne School of Design, University of Melbourne. Author of 'Framing Places: Mediating Power in Built Form' and 'Becoming Places: Urbanism/ Architecture/Identity/Power'. His research interests include theories of place identity, public space, informal settlements, creative clusters and transit-oriented development.
