The latest Journey to Work analysis shows that most people who live in Greater Western Sydney work in the region and a high proportion travel by car. Join a discussion with Barbara Beard, WESTIR LTDand Simon Ginn, Transport Planner, Parramatta City Council about transport and the infrastructure needs of western Sydney.

Barbara Beard is a Social Research and Information Officer with WESTIR LTD - Western Sydney Research and Information Service. Her work focuses on Greater Western Sydney and includes publications using the 2006 and 2011 Journey to Work (JTW) data from the Bureau of Transport Statistics. Barbara will speak to her recently published JTW data which includes detailed information on where people who live in GWS work, and the method of transport they use to get there. Barbara lives and works in GWS and is a regular user of public transport in the region.

Simon Ginn is the Manager of Transport Planning with Parramatta City Council. Simon will be talking about some of the proposed strategies for reducing intraregional travel by car, including the Western Sydney Light Rail proposals, and how this fits with an integrated strategy. Simon won a Churchill Fellowship to investigate light rail and has more than 25 years experiences as a transport engineer and urban planner.
